Curious about the diversity in our natural spaces? Have a smartphone with internet access? Want to contribute to science while enjoying the outdoors? Our BioBlitz event is perfect for you!
What’s a BioBlitz? It’s a biological census where citizen scientists document plant and animal species by taking photos and uploading them to iNaturalist. We’re proud to be part of the City Nature Challenge, joining hundreds of land trusts and organizations in collecting valuable data about our local biodiversity.
Two Ways to Participate:
Self-Guided BioBlitz
- Time: 9am-2pm
- Location: Fernandez Ranch
- Format: Drop in anytime and explore at your own pace
- Bonus: Stop by our welcome table to participate in our scavenger hunt and win prizes!
Guided Hike BioBlitz
- Time: 10am-12pm
- Location: Meet at the main parking lot at 9:45am
- Guide: JMLT Stewardship Manager Ricardo Black
- Distance: Approximately 2.5 miles
- Highlights: Walk to a scenic pond with beautiful wildflowers along the way
What to Wear/Bring:
- Layered clothing, sturdy shoes, hiking poles (if you use them), water and lunch, sunscreen
- Smartphone or tablet with the iNaturalist app pre-downloaded
