Ready to (re)connect with nature? Join us for a series of free, guided hikes through stunning local landscapes. Our stewardship guides will lead you on select JMLT properties, pointing out fascinating flora, fauna, and geological wonders. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a casual nature lover, these hikes offer a perfect opportunity to unwind, exercise, and appreciate the beauty of the outdoors.
Mushrooms at Fernandez Ranch
It’s time for mushrooms! Come out to this guided walk to learn about the mushrooms that grow in Fernandez Ranch! We will explore the woodland trail and take our time identifying and learning about the specimens we find! Our focus will be to familiarize ourselves with mushrooms and we will NOT be harvesting any! This is a free, public event. No registration is required. Just show up the morning of the hike.
When: Saturday, January 25, 9am – 12pm
Where: Fernandez Ranch, 1081 Christie Rd, Martinez, CA 94553
What to bring/wear: Comfortable clothing, hiking boots, hiking poles (if you use them), hat, water, sunscreen, snack.
Explore Painted Rock
Come out and explore Painted Rock to enjoy the magnificent views and learn what’s new in the park! We will see a display of early wildflowers, new trails, and a first hand look at some projects the stewardship crew has done! Special attention will be taken to how the landscape is changing now that we have cattle grazing on the property. This is a free, public event.
When: Sunday, February 23, 9am – 12pm
Where: We will meet at the intersection of Chalda Way and Rheem Blvd. Please park on Chalda Way
What to bring/wear: Comfortable clothing, hiking boots, hiking poles (if you use them), hat, water, sunscreen, snack.
Wildflowers at Painted Rock
Wildflower season is upon us! So grab a camera and a friend and come out an join us on this guided walk where we will identify wildflowers and learn some ethnobotany about them! It will be a great way to practice or begin to learn some of the common flowers that grow out in the beautiful hills of Moraga. This is a free, public event.
When: Saturday, March 22, 9am – 12pm
Where: We will meet at the intersection of Chalda Way and Rheem Blvd. Please park on Chalda Way
What to bring/wear: Comfortable clothing, hiking boots, hiking poles (if you use them), hat, water, sunscreen, snack.
** Please note that you do not need to register to participate in JMLT’s guided hikes. Just show up the morning of with your hat, boots, and sense of wonder. Oh, and a snack!
