Community Gardens
A Focus on Local Food
Greater housing density squeezes garden space from homes. Community gardens provide a place for urban residents to produce healthy food and connect to a living, growing and rewarding part of nature. When Martinez residents wanted a place to dig in the dirt, to plant, and to reap an edible harvest, JMLT helped establish a community garden in partnership with the City of Martinez.
We have sponsored the popular 4-acre garden located in Hidden Lakes Park since its inception in 1997. Participants pay a nominal fee to rent one of 19 plots of land for growing vegetables and flowers. Even local elementary school students share the bounty of their efforts with friends, family and other community members.
