2026 Land Stewardship Volunteer Workdays

Painted Rock Celebration
September 4, 2025
JMLT 2026 Kickoff
January 7, 2026
Join the John Muir Land Trust stewardship team for a monthly volunteer series focused on caring for the land and strengthening our connection to it. Each event centers on restoring and beautifying a well-loved JMLT property.
Volunteers gain hands-on experience with land stewardship techniques such as weed abatement, plant identification, and simple ways to boost biodiversity.
This series is a great way to get to know the property, learn about native and non-native plants, connect with fellow nature lovers, and see firsthand how our stewardship team keeps these places healthy and welcoming.

Pacheco Marsh Bioblitz & Volunteer Day: One Year of the Marsh β Come Celebrate
π Friday, May 2 β° 8:00β11:00 AM π Pacheco Marsh
Pacheco Marsh opened to the public one year ago. In that time, we’ve watched it come alive β birds, native plants, and wildlife returning to a landscape that’s been years in the making. Come celebrate with us, and help us keep it that way.
What to Expect
Part 1: Bioblitz Walk β 8:00β10:00 AM We’ll spend the first two hours exploring the marsh with iNaturalist, documenting every plant, bird, insect, and critter we can find. Staff will be on hand to share what makes Pacheco Marsh ecologically significant and what we’re discovering as the site continues to recover. The walk is approximately 2 miles on flat, open terrain β no shade, so plan accordingly.
Part 2: Iceplant Removal β 10:00β11:00 AM We’ll close out the morning with hands-on stewardship work. Iceplant is a South African succulent that crowds out native vegetation and destabilizes soil. You’ll learn how JMLT manages invasive species across our properties β and leave having made a real difference.
What to bring/wear: β―Hat, sturdy closed-toe shoes, water, sunscreen. Tools and gloves will be provided.
