Popular Moraga hill saved from development; land trust to acquire 84-acre site

MORAGA — John Muir Land Trust, with the help of thousands of donations from local residents, will acquire and preserve Moraga’s iconic Painted Rock site and turn it into Lamorinda’s newest public open space.

“Thanks to the unprecedented and overwhelming support we received, the community put us so close to our $2 million goal that the JMLT board of directors authorized this acquisition,” said the land trust’s executive director, Linus Eukel, in a statement. “We are confident we’ll wrap up the campaign soon. Painted Rock is loved by this community, and this is a huge win for everyone. We’re thrilled.”

East Bay donors have contributed more than $1.9 million, according to the trust.
