Plan A Park Public Meeting

On March 14, 2019 in Moraga, dozens of JMLT supporters and fans of The Campaign To Save Painted Rock gathered to see early planning concepts for trails and other features on the property.

Restoration Design Group presented design concepts and gathered community feedback.

JMLT is seeking to raise $2 million by May 31, 2019 to purchase the property labeled on these maps as “84-Acre Parcel.” If we succeed, it will be combined with adjacent properties to form a new 505-acre public open space, shown here as “Painted Rock Park.”

This map shows adjacency of Painted Rock Park and likely trail connections to other parks and public open spaces in the area:

This map shows existing and proposed new trails on 505-acre Painted Rock Park. Possible points of entry and areas for parking are indicated:

This map and related photos show possible features and their proposed locations. These include trails, benches, signage, restrooms, and more:

Participants at the meeting in Moraga indicated their preferences for these features:

High Preference

  • Hiking trails
  • Restrooms
  • Invasive species management
  • Fire risk reduction

Moderate Preference

  • Benches
  • Signs
  • New Plantings
  • Multi-use trails
  • Parking

Some Preference

  • Equestrian facilities
  • Dedicated biking trails

The fundraising goal of $2 million by May 31, 2019 is for the acquisition of the 84-acre property. Improvements such as those proposed on these maps are subject to additional fundraising and further input from members of the community.

If JMLT acquires the property, before it opens to the public measures will be taken to reduce the risk of fire and otherwise ensure overall public safety and welfare.
